These men are processing used rubber that has been imported from the USA.

They feed the used rubber through giant steel rollers until it is soft and malleable.

The rubber is rolled out and cut into the required sizes.

Once cut the rubber is rolled and packaged then exported back to the USA to be re-tread onto car tyres.

This type of factory has no health and safety precaution and are totally unregulated.

All day these men load and unload bags of cement.

The air that they work in is thick with cement dust. This causes long term damage to the eyes, throat and lungs.

None of the men have protective clothing. They use sack material to fashion hoods to try and protect themselves but this has little effect.

Wood Laminates Factory, Bangalore.

These boys are pressing wood laminates by hand.

Their products will be packed and shipped around the world.

These smalls scale factories are unregulated. Young children are hired as cheap labour.

The Samarthanam Kitchens.

These men prepare lunch for 35,000 school children each day.

The state does not provide lunch so the children rely on charitable donations to fund the Samarthanam Kitchen.

The men start work in the middle of the night to produce the tons on rice, daal and sambar required.

Nothing is wasted in India, anything that has value will be recycled.

This is largely a manual process as people collect and sort paper, plastics and other goods.

Many of these people are exposed to dangerous chemicals as they break and process the materials.
