The Outsider by Albert Camus.

Meursault is emotionally detached from the world around her.  Her mother died yet she shed no tears.  She has murdered a man yet feels no remorse.  Now she awaits execution for her crime.  Having rejected religion as absurd, she now contemplates her indifference and how it has caused her to become an outsider from normal society.
